ChatGPT integrates with Apple Messages to send texts automatically
Apple has introduced a new integration that embeds OpenAI’s ChatGPT directly into the Messages app, allowing users to generate suggested replies and compose texts through an automated “text scribe” feature. The functionality appears as a button within the iMessage interface, where users can prompt the AI to draft responses, create messages, or summarize conversation threads, with the output editable before sending.
The integration, announced at Apple’s recent developer conference, leverages the existing iOS messaging framework and requires an active ChatGPT subscription for full access. Apple emphasizes on‑device processing for basic suggestions while more complex queries are routed to OpenAI’s cloud servers, with data handling governed by both companies’ privacy policies. The feature is slated to roll out to iPhone and iPad users in the upcoming iOS update, expanding the range of AI‑powered tools available within Apple’s ecosystem.
