Djibouti Football Federation faces allegations of misusing FIFA and CAF funds
FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) together allocate more than $1 million each year to the Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) as part of development programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, training and competition standards in the East African nation. The funding, which has been distributed over the past several years, is intended to support grassroots initiatives, stadium upgrades and coaching education, and is reported to be disbursed through a combination of direct grants and project‑specific subsidies.
The FDF is currently under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that a portion of the allocated funds may have been misused, prompting calls for an independent audit. Djiboutian authorities have opened a preliminary investigation, while FIFA and CAF have stated that they are cooperating with local officials and will review the federation’s financial records to ensure compliance with governance standards. The outcome of the inquiry could affect future disbursements and the federation’s eligibility for international programmes.
