Trump claims Strait of Hormuz is U.S. territory amid Iran tensions
Washington — President Joe Biden said on Thursday that Iran has expressed a willingness to negotiate, but, in his view, the country is not yet prepared to reach an agreement that satisfies U.S. requirements. Speaking at a press briefing, the president noted that Tehran’s “desire to make a deal” does not translate into readiness to accept the terms that Washington deems necessary for a durable resolution of the nuclear issue. He emphasized that any future accord must address the full scope of Iran’s nuclear activities, regional behavior, and compliance mechanisms.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to revive the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which the United States abandoned in 2018. European allies have been urging both sides to return to the negotiating table, while the International Atomic Energy Agency continues to monitor Iran’s nuclear facilities. The administration indicated that it will maintain pressure through sanctions and diplomatic channels until Tehran demonstrates a willingness to engage on the substantive points outlined by the United States.
